Deployment
Military Orders won the roll off and elected to go second. Yu Jing forced the enemy to deploy in a more open table edge, knowing it would give prime target options for the Guija to pick them off one by one. MO Set up a core Crosier+Black Friar team on the right side of the field, with Tutons lurking in the center to charge the armory. The Yu Jing strike team was spread out, with Jing Qo leading a harris of monks in the center of the deployment, and Liang Kai in a duo with another monk on the right. Long Ya and Weibing are deployed with easy access to strike up either flank if needed, while a Husong lurked waiting to open fire down into the Armory.
Turn 1
The Yu Jing Strike Force had been quickly cobbled together from several depleted fire teams in the area, being re-routed under Generial Ruyi's command. Lacking critical heavy infantry to hold the armory, the command would have to rely on depleting the enemy's forces early to clear the way for monks to hold the room itself.
Leaping from it's reserved deployment, the Guija struck on the misdeployed Crosier team. Downing the MSV 2 Spitfire, the paramedic, and a generic in quick succession, the core team was dismantled in the devastating firepower from the Armored Assault Unit. Jing Qo began her move to secure the armory, but was caught by surprise by a Fugazi cleverly deployed in an elevated angle and was stunned before she could reach the Armory doors. With the forward monk team forced to fall back and regroup, a Weibing moved up from the right flank to brute force the doors open. Succeeding in the task, the Weibing moved to a nearby corner to enter suppressive fire, lending its repeater to cover two entrances to the objective room. The Husong was given assisted fire to further enhance the threat as a lone monk moved into the room and looted a set of grenades.
Mendoza is not a patient man. The way to the armory continentally opened for him, the Padre stepped forth into the armory and uttered a challenge to the Shaolin who promptly unloaded a chain rifle into the Knight. A blaze of gunfire followed with a shaolin splattered onto the interior walls and a wound scored on the Padre. Successfully resetting vs a Zhanshi's attempts to pin him down, Mendoza moved to loot an explosive CC weapon and established himself in the corner of the Armory. To follow up and secure the position, a trinitarian moved out of hidden deployment to gun down the Weibing, before joining mendoza in the Armory and looting some extra armor plates. The round ended with a decisive scoring from PanO
Turn 2
The PanO strike team presented a deadly and effective control over the central Armory. With no heavy hitters of their own, the Yu Jing force would be hard pressed to successfully crack the opposition. Their success would lie in the skill and cohesion of the Shaolin monks.
In the impetuous phase the central fire team was broken to allow the Shaolin to move forward with the free order, out of LOS of the PanO in the Armory. At the start of the general phase, the fire team was reformed, with the first order being the Shaolin hurling forward into the room to lay two chain rifles down on the enemy inside the room. The Trinitarian failed one and was downed, while Mendoza in a shocking turn failed both his and also collapsed, leaving a very dead shaolin in the process. Sending her second Shaolin in to finishing off Mendoza with a Coup de Grace, Jing Quo lurked outside the Armory as the second monk looted the vault to tie the arms race. A Long Ya was sent forward to engage the Black Friar, downing a critical PanO over watch unit, further cementing Yu Jing's control of the board. The Husong and Guija both moved to have full vision over all but one entrance to the Armory, as Liang Kai and his monk moved up to screen the Guija's flank.
An Order Sergeant would be the first to step forward. Attempting to Carbonite the Guija, she was outperformed by the TAG pilot but did manage to break the war machine out of its suppressive fire. For her efforts, a Shaolin dodged around the corner and angrily leveled a chainrifle at her. A remaining Crosier from further back moved up to down the Shaolin, landing a round that miraculously did not down the unarmored monk. A second attempt was made but the Shaolin won the momentary engagement and blocked the path with a smoke grenade. With orders beginning to run dry, a Tuton duo that had been held in reserve pushed forward, risking the oncoming fire from the Guija with nothing but servo armor and God's grace to save the day. Miraculously dodging their way through heavy fire, the two entered the Armory to an onslaught of HMG fire from the Husong and a Long Ya. Suffering a wound each, the Tuton duo downed the Shaolin and secured a second round of scoring for the Papacy.
Turn 3
Things were looking grim for the Yu Jing force. Out maneuvered, but not outgunned, the team turned to brutal offensive action to win the day.
From outside the Armory, the Guija whirred to life. Coordinating a volley into the Spitfire Tutonic Knight, the Guija, Husong, and a Long Ya quickly downed the knight in a blaze of gunfire. Flanking from the left side, the Weibing held in reserve shot the second Tutonic Knight in the back and downed him as well. The Armory cleared for a third time, Jing Qo moved up to loot the armory racks and enter suppressive fire over the enemy access points. As the Guija and Weibing moved to do the same on either flank, Liang Kai and his companion moved forward on their flank, downing the Order Sergeant, a Fugazi, and a final Crosier to limit the enemy order pool as much as possible.
With precious few options, and not enough orders to safely send any of the regular troops, the Knight Commander was all that was left. Moving forward with a heroic dodge, he was able to move passed the Weibing's line of fire and managed to reach the entrance to the Armory. The final order of the game was spent dodging forward into the room, only to be gunned down by the oncoming fire from the enemy. Valiantly, yet in vain, the Military Orders attempted to wrest final control of this pivotal strategic structure.
Wrap-Up
The Armory is always super fun! It was a real challenge to play with NO Heavy Infantry on the field. I'd brought this list for other missions at the tournament and just didn't feel my second was up to snuff but man did the monks do work for me! I think if I'd been able to go second I would have had a much more commanding game but as it was I was faced round after round with really durable threats.
