Mission Briefing
Scenario: FURBAR
Combatants: Vanilla Yu Jing vs Military Orders
Points: 300
Final Scoring 8-4 in Yu Jing's Favor
Deployment
Yu Jing won the LT roll off on the second attempt after both sides wiffed the first go and chose to go first. Deployment was very aggressive on my part. Using my Jujak and MBH duo, I set them up to charge the center or left flanks while I kept my Shang Ji and Kokram duo prepared to deal with any overwatch issues. The rest of the Yu Jing deployment was very spread out and reactive, waiting to see where the PanO threats came from. My opponent changed out his list after our previous game, and proudly plonked down a Knight of the Sepulcher to provide some serious long range teeth to his side of the board. I counted very few PanO bodies this time around, as the forces of the Military Orders were scrambling to recover from their earlier losses vs YJ strike teams across the docks.
Turn 1
Refusing to allow the PanO forces a chance to breathe, the YJ Strike team acted quickly, moving forward to shock the enemy into an early backfoot position.
Seeing a Crosier and Black Friar with MSV 2 poised to watch the central and right containers that the Jujak team was in position to take, the Celestial Guard was ordered to provide a smoke screen to block the Sierra bot from her over watch position on the left. With the heavy smoke billowing from the canisters mixing with the already heavy obstruction from the shipping containers Kokram followed the directions sent to him from the drone feed, linked through Dayoing's control unit. Trained in the finest military engineering college the state empire had to offer, Kokram easily was able to extinguish the fire and secure the sensitive hardware inside. Forced to spring far earlier than than would have been ideal, the Tiger soldier took a risky Combat Jump onto the field, but was able to navigate the high Gs of the landing. Moving from this advantageous position, the Tiger soldier was able to gun down the Black Friar and the Crosier out of cover to free the advance for the Jujak. With time slipping away, the Jujak sprinted forward into the inferno as his bounty hunter companion hurled herself further down. Emerging victorious from the flames, the Jujak rushed to get the sensitive data to a secure location, as the bounty hunter took up suppressive fire on a key juncture.
It was not long till the crusading knights of the Military Orders sprung into action. Uttering prayers over the hacked comms unit of the dockyard unit, the Knight of the Holy Sepulcher stepped forth to the challenge. As he emerged from holographic ambush, the Knight opened fire from Kokram's exposed flank. Utilizing his superior power armor, Kokram was able to duck into cover from the ambush, only suffering a single wound. The Knight continued onward, downing the bounty hunter and forcing the Jujak to expend his panzerfaust, with only a single dent into the Knight to show for his efforts. With the Yu Jing forces pushed back the Knight of Montessa quickly moved up the field to extinguish the final fire. Roaring around the corner, the Montessa brutally downed the wounded Kokram, following up with a Coup de Grace as per orders directly from the Papcy.
Turn 2
The Primary Objective was already completed. The danger now lay within the grasp of the two heavily armored knights pressuring the Yu Jing Strike Team. Pinning them in was critical to ensuring victory in the coming moments.
The Dayoing Operative knew the battle was reaching a critical point. Both of the enemy knights were pressing close into Yu Jing lines and options to deal with them were only available for a limited window of time. Taking control o f the Long Ya units directly, the Dayoing ordered a coordinated attack on the Knight of the Sepulcher, ordering the Shang Ji to take the lead on the assault with the Jujak hurtling forward to threaten with his Shotgun. Outnumbered and Outflanked, the Knight attempted to down the Jujak who had stepped out of cover, managing to score a wound on the noble soldier as the AP HMG and two Panzerfaust shots reduced his hulking frame to a pile of rubble. Having cleared the primary threat, the Dayoing plotted a precise path for the Jujak to flank the Montessa, enabling the Jujak to put a wound on the Knightly biker. The second combat group was spent ordering the Tiger Solider into an advantageous position to gun down the remains of the Crosier fire team one by one.
Knightly Oaths and Deeds of Heroism are held in the highest regard in the most grim of times. The Montessa knew his duty, and barreled into the Jujak, tanking the wide scatter shot to behead the Jujak in a single blow. Loosing not a moment, the Knight continued down the field, downing a Long Ya, a Kuang Shi, and the Celestial Guard Control unit on his rampage to turn the tide. A Pathfinder drone was directed to flank the Tiger soldier with some lengthy mapping effort and was able to down the menace that had struck so much havoc to the PanO forces.
Turn 3
Danger was closing in, but so was victory. The Yu Jing team had retrieved critical momentum during the opening moments of the fight, now they just needed to hold on and maintain their control of the field.
The Primary threat remaining was the Knight of Montessa deep within the Yu Jing side of the field. With few options to deal with this threat, a Kuang Shi was dispatched to redeem his past failures. Equipped with the Boarding Shotgun, the Kuang Shi hurled himself into the threat range of the Montessa who attempted a critical dodge to close into melee. The Boarding Shotgun landed a critical hit directly centered in the Knight's chest, ending his noble lineage and deeds as the bike careened into a nearby wall. With the heavy hitters downed from the opposition, the Shang Ji moved to secure the central console as a Weibing moved forward to claim the opposing console. With few moments remaining, the Long Ya and console controlling units all entered suppressive fire to keep the enemy at bay.
The PanO team was running short on optoins and time was limited. Redeeming the knightly valor of his squad, the Knight Commander leaped into combat with the Weibing, downing it in noble combat and securing his console for the Papacy.
Wrap-Up
I am now convinced that FURBAR scoring is really first turn favored. In both games I've gotten to go first and with no exclusion zones it seems very easy to roll up and do a few checks to secure a whopping 5 points. I feel a faction like Steel Phalanx could almost auto-win with first turn access to linked eclipse and HI/Engineers. That being said, what an exciting mission! Never played vs a Knight of the Sepulcher before and it was really cool to see it go to work.
